ABOUT ME

From the lab into the field.

Hi, my name is Alexandra. I am a neuroscientist and dog behavior specialist. Here you can read my story and find out more about how I work with dogs.

I am very excited to share with you the fruits of my collaboration with The Institute of Canine Psychotherapy (ICP), which promotes a progressive and holistic approach to resolve problem behaviors such as anxiety or aggression in canines. The ICP pioneers the world of dog training and rehabilitation, with an approach rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, rather than conditioning methods, which allows dogs to process their emotions and induce decision-making.

Among all age-groups, it is adolescent dogs that are most at risk to be abandoned because of the behavioral challenges that occur during this time. Adolescents are perceived as troublemakers, across all species. Unfortunately, most caregivers, and even dog professionals, are not well-informed about the peculiarities of adolescence, which leads to the application of more severe, aversive methods for their education.

If you want to know why adolescent dogs behave the way they do, this course is for you! I cover different basic notions from neuroscience, the changes that occur in the brain of an adolescent and how they relate to their behavior, and give some advice how you can apply this knowledge in your everyday life to better support adolescent dogs. This certified course is pre-recorded and includes 2 yearly live sessions where we dive deeper into some of the topics and, of course, answer any remaining questions.
